Claire North holds a First Grade Honours Instructors Certificate from the British Institute of Professional Dog Trainers (BIPDT, 2011 & 2013). She’s also a registered member working toward accreditation from the Kennel Club Accredited Instructor (KCAI) scheme.
Claire began her teaching career early; at the age of 16, she was teaching children from 3 upwards to ride horses. Over the years, she progressed into more advanced teaching and training, working with a variety of horses and riders in multiple disciplines. A keen love of dogs and dog training ran alongside for many years, before Claire finally made the decision to move from horses to dogs in 2003.
Claire set up her business North K9 Ltd in 2012, as a companion and sport dog training business. North K9 has grown incredibly year on year; Claire has worked with in excess of 1000 dogs during 2016, through various classes and one-to-one training and behaviour consultations. Claire also works in conjunction with local Vets4Pets/Pets at Home, to provide both puppy party and puppy foundation training.
Since 2014, Claire has been giving talks and demonstrations to newly graduated RVNs at the College of Animal Welfare, focusing on choosing and working in interdisciplinary teams. On a similar theme, Claire and colleague Hannah Micheal (Theakston Physiotherapy) presented at the Kennel Club teaching event TOTIT 2015.
Claire has owned a variety of dogs, but has a soft spot for her rescue Lurchers! To date, she has trained and competed with her dogs in Obedience, Rally, Flyball, Agility, and IPO. With 20 years of teaching experience at all ages and abilities, you can rest assured you’re in good hands to learn or improve your skills!
